Developed in conjunction with professionals from NYU Langone Medical Center, the Certificate in Medical Coding offers the knowledge base necessary for those who seek to begin their career in medical coding.
This certificate emphasizes the core skills and competencies needed by students who are new to the field and prepares them for successful careers as medical coding professionals in health information management.
Upon completion of the Certificate, students are able to:
- Proficiently apply ICD-9 codes and CPT-4 codes
- Assign diagnoses and procedure codes
- Use and apply medical terminology
- Understand human anatomy and physiology
This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete the eight required courses. A high school diploma or GED is required and must be presented prior to declaring certificate candidacy. For certificate advisement, please contact the program office at scps.him@nyu.edu or 212-998-7188.
