In this course, you will learn the central aspects of newswriting and reporting for both print and digital platforms, from crafting the unique structure of a news story, to organizing complex information into truthful, objective, and accurate journalism. Whether you are interested in covering local concerts or sporting events, developing and following a beat, crafting news-focused features, or breaking news, this course will help you build a foundation of skills and strategies. You will gain experience in finding and reporting news stories, conducting interviews and background reporting, and working with an editor to turn it all into a coherent, compelling, and impartial piece of journalism. By the end of this course, you will have found, pitched, and produced a news story that complies with current journalistic standards and practices for both digital and print platforms as well as gained a working understanding of journalism ethics. This course may be used to fulfill the requirements of the Certificate in Journalism. It may be taken to pursue this certificate, or as a standalone course. Questions?
